How To Have
Success & Fun In Band
Use
this manual to plan for success in Band and to set goals for
yourself and the group during the 2007-2008 school year
His is the first
time we have issued a manual for participation in Burlingame
Bands. Hopefully, the information contained in this manual
will help you and your parents plan for success in this
year’s Band classes, concerts, and individual endeavors.
Everyone will have different levels of participation and
success, but remember that the more successful each person
is, then the more successful the whole band.
We are looking forward to a very exciting
year and we will be building on one of the most successful
years we have had during the 2003-2004 school year. Here are
a few of the events that I hope will excite you about the
upcoming year.
ö
We have added many new and fun pep
band tunes to our library this year and our promising
athletic teams, some new football opponents, and the newly
remodeled gym should help us really get fired up in the
stands and on the field or court.
ö
The addition of a Jazz curriculum
should make rehearsals much more fun and rewarding as well
as increasing our performance opportunities.
ö
KU Band Day, Veterans Day, and
Christmas Parades will give us a chance to show off what
promises to be a very good drum line.
ö
Regional and State solo and
ensemble contests do not conflict with spring break or any
other school functions making it possible for many of you to
reach personal musical goals that haven’t been available
recently.
ö
We are returning a large number of
key players from last year and are fortunate also to have
some good players coming back to the band this year.
ö
Pending school board approval, we
will be traveling to a site to be determined in the spring
for competition, sightseeing, and fun.
How to Use This
Manual
The purpose of
this manual is to make you aware of all of the opportunities
that exist for you this year as a member of the Bearcat
Band. For any organization to be successful, it must have
planning and organization, guidelines that are followed, and
a group of leaders who are willing to lead the way. In the
past, this has somewhat been accomplished by an occasional
note home, word of mouth, and the school calendar. Needless
to say, this has not been very consistent and at times has
led to confusion, missed opportunities, and a lack of
fairness in dealing with discipline, honors, and grading.
In the
following pages, we will layout a plan for the year that
should allow you to make the best of your year in Band and
answer any questions that you may have about the what, when,
where, and how of any event that pertains to Band. All
policies of the Burlingame Student Handbook apply to events
that our not mentioned in this manual.
